We applied more Benadryl and waited a few hours to see if it would go down on its own. No dice. We headed out to the doc so he could have a look-see, just in case. Better safe than sorry, IMO. Once we got in the doc says it is an insect bite, but that the insect in question likely injected some saliva at the site and Keto Boy is having a negative reaction to it. Ok, then. Got the script but then had to drive all over town to get it filled. For whatever reason, I only managed to find one local pharmacy that had his meds on hand.
We got the meds, got him home and dosed him, and everything will be fine. The day is just shot, though. We will have to either do double school or school on Saturday to make up for the lost day (homeschool, plus we go almost year round to avoid the summer brain drain), which is frustrating.
Normally I would have been a mess. Not that this was a major crisis, but that it was a huge hassle and threw off the day. I am incredibly Type A, and stuff like this frazzles me pretty easily. This is the point at which I usually binge eat. While we were at the pharmacy I was so, soooooo very tempted to say, "Screw it," grab a candy bar or bag of chips and a soda, and chow down.
I am happy to report that I grabbed a package of smoked almonds and a ginormous bottle of Smart Water, and stayed completely away from the junk. This exercise of willpower qualifies as a NSV.
WINNING!
Now that we're home, the boy is dosed and I've had a minute to settle down and get my mind right, I feel much better. Time to make dinner!
I've got Oven "Grilled" Asian Chicken Thighs in the oven as we speak. It smells delightful. I picked up this recipe* from the Ruled.me site. If you guys haven't been there yet, you must go. Immediately. The admin over there posts some of my favorite keto recipes. I have never made any of his dishes that came out less than delicious. Even the BBQ. Dude made keto BBQ sauce, and it TASTES like the real thing. This is nothing less than a minor miracle.
Anyway, as suggested in the recipe I will be serving this with spinach drizzled with the drippings and sauce that have leaked down into the bottom of the pan. I'll post an update with pics when it's all done.
UPDATE:
As promised, the pics.
